CCTV Cameras in Valletta

The cameras installed, including the AI-enhanced camera at Triq il-Merkanti, are operated and managed by LESA. These cameras are equipped with advanced AI systems to improve enforcement efficiency, contributing to a safer and cleaner Valletta. The system is designed to protect the community while adhering to strict data protection regulations under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and local laws in the Maltese Islands.

The footage recorded by the cameras is retained securely for up to 30 days, after which it is automatically deleted unless required for legal purposes. All data processing is conducted in compliance with GDPR guidelines, ensuring the protection of individuals’ privacy and personal data.

It is important to clarify that while the AI camera offers enhanced search capabilities, it functions as a regular CCTV system and does not include facial recognition technology.
